Compton scattering of 662 keV gamma rays by aluminium and copper materials using NaI(Tl) detector
A rotating NaI(TI) scintillator detector and a collimated Cs 137 source producing gamma rays with an energy of 662 keV scattered incoherently by aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu) scatterers through the angles from 0 to 120° are used to study Compton scattering. The Compton scattering effect is investigated and found that the energy of scattered gamma ray decreases as the scattering angles increases...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Field Gamma-ray Spectrometry by NaI(Tl) and HPGe Detectors in the South Caspian Region
Natural radionuclides present in soil as well as certain anthropogenic radionuclides released to the environment are the major contributors to terrestrial outdoor exposures. In the assessment of human exposures from environmental radioactivity, besides the conventional method of soil and vegetation sampling combined with laboratory based analyses of environmental media, the other choice would b...
متن کاملField gamma dose-rate measurement with a NaI(Tl) detector: re-evaluation of the "threshold" technique
Radiation detectors, like doped NaI, are commonly used in the field for the determination of gamma dose-rates. In most cases, and even though these systems generally allow one to record the full gamma spectrum between 0 to around 3 MeV, this dose-rate is computed from the count rates recorded in a limited number of "windows" (Aitken, 1985). With this technique, only a small part of the spectrum...
متن کاملDetermination of the dead-time losses in NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectrometer
The 12 NaI(Tl)-detector gamma-ray spectrometry system (GSS) “Romashka”[1,2] has recently been equipped with a new computer controlled HVSys 16 channel high-voltage power supply with preselected single channel polarity [3] (Fig.1). In order to do some preliminary checks of the GSS chains’ characteristics, a single channel gamma-spectrometry tract was commissioned. It was consist of a single Roma...
متن کاملEnergy calibration of the NaI(Tl) calorimeter of the SND detector using cosmic muons
The general purpose spherical nonmagnetic detector ( SND ) is now taking data at VEPP-2M ee collider in BINP ( Novosibirsk ) in the centre of mass energy range of 0.2 ÷ 1.4 GeV. The energy calibration of the NaI(Tl) calorimeter of the SND detector with cosmic muons is described. Using this method, the energy resolution of 5.5 % (σ) for 500 MeV photons was achieved.
